The
hotel room was barely clean, we did have clean sheets. NO elavator so not
good for those who are elderly or have a lot of Luggage. DON'T eat at the
Frontier unless you have alot of cash for so-so service and food. We'd be
better off paying an extra $20 to get what is basic at other Day's Inns

Check-in
was smooth and from the very beginning the staff was helpful. When we
entered our room it was obvious housekeeping wasn't quite finished. The
bed covers were still pulled back from their vacuuming the floors and
there was no shampoo yet in the bathroom. I went out into the hallway
and got the few things from the housekeeping cart that were missing from
our room. I also grabbed a few extra towels as the bathroom floor seemed
damp and I wanted to wipe this up before one of us fell.
The longer we stayed in the room I could tell there was a problem with
the bathroom. The water seemed to be coming from nowhere. Upon further
investigation I found it was coming from around the toilet seal at the
floor. I went down and let the front desk staff know this and they said
they'd send maintenance.
This Days Inn provides a shuttle to the Casino. It leaves at different
times depending on the days you're staying but during our time there it
left 30 minutes past the hour, hourly from about 10:30am - 11:30pm...
except on Fridays the last run was 5:30pm. On that day it stopped
running too early to really get you there and back for an early weekend
excursion. But it was convenient and stopped right outside the front
door of the hotel.
When we got back from our first day of sightseeing the bathroom still
had water on the floor. I looked and the leak was still coming from
under the toilet. I called down to the front desk and they said
maintenance had already been by and fixed a part in the back of the
toilet that was leaking but they'd send him up again.
When he found the second leak he said it couldn't be fixed until we
checked out of the room. We were offered a new room but I didn't feel
like packing up 5 people worth of luggage to move. I just requested
extra towels and we stayed in the room.
The staff was very understanding and they gave us a rollaway bed at no
charge the second night for our trouble.
The room had two queen beds. Both were comfortable, not too hard, not
too soft... just right! There was also a nice gas log fireplace. The
only drawback to this is that it had to be started with a timer which
turns off the fireplace should you forget but the timer was so loud that
it was a bit disturbing as it clicked away the minutes. The fireplace
itself was nice though. The heating/cooling system on the wall was ample
to heat the place by itself and it was often warm in the room without
either of these switched on.
The floors (carpet) in the room were fine although there was a slight
odor as we walked down the hallways. In front of the ice machine there
was ice that had fallen on the floor from folks over filling their ice
buckets. I think the dampness from this contributed to the smell but the
room itself had no odor.
There is a heated swimming pool which is at a great temperature. Some
heated pools are too cold but this one was nice. The pool area also has
a dry spa, hot tub, shower area and seating for those who aren't
swimming. The only thing we used was the pool so we can't say how all
the other things were but they looked to be in working order to me.
There is a restaurant on site called the Frontier. We thought about
eating there but it was a bit pricey for us. A piece of chicken and
sides to go with it was $17.00 Canadian. We decided to go off premise
and eat that night. But the Frontier looked to have a nice atmosphere.
The lobby of the hotel had hot coffee, a seating area with fireplace and
lots of pamphlets to gather information about any sights you might like
to see. The front desk staff was also a wealth of information.
The hotel really had no "view" but that's why it's price was
lower than some of the other Days Inns around there. It's located just a
short distance from the Falls... less than 5 minutes.
There is parking in the rear of the hotel and you can take the shuttle
so you won't have to pay to park once you're at the falls or at Clifton
Hill where many of the attractions are located. You have to walk from
the casino to the falls... a few blocks to the American Falls view.
Our last night we had to park farther away from the hotel. There are two
parking areas. One is directly behind the hotel and the other is up on a
hill just behind the first but you're much farther away from the hotel
itself in the latter parking area. Both are lit but not as well lit as
I'd have liked.
Again, I can't say enough about the staff. The front desk staff and
maintenance addressed all my concerns about the water problem and any
questions I had about attractions. The housekeeping staff was friendly
and said "hello" as we passed in the hallways.
One thing that really scared me was on the last morning as we were
leaving the ceiling tile in the bathroom was lifted somehow while I was
in there alone. I didn't know if someone was about to come down out of
the ceiling (big imagination while in a foreign country) or if there was
a mutant mouse of some sort who'd learned to lift the tiles to watch the
guests turn and run, but either way I was ready to leave!
I immediately called the front desk staff when my husband took a look
himself as the tile came up. They immediately sent security (it was 4am)
and he was there within 5 minutes (not quick enough for me but quick
enough in a normal situation). We were given 10% off our bill since no
one quite knew what to make of this.
I got a call from the general manager about this yesterday and she
informed me it was because of a new light weight fire resistant tile
they'd started using and the suction from the ventilation system in the
ceiling was lifting the tiles up when it came on. They are now taping
down the tiles to keep them from scaring anyone else. :o) I thought it
was nice of her to give me a call to explain this.

This
is an old hotel with need for many improvements....hall rugs badly
stained, no elevators but 4 storeys, tub tile cracked in many places,
bathroom fans clogged with dust and not working, wallpaper in rooms needs
replacement....on plus side....lots of parking, great pool, sauna and
whirlpool, best rate on River Road
The
room was very small and it didn't look like the pictures. The gas fireplace
was so close to the bed that it made it too hot to sleep. We had to turn
the air conditioner on just to be comfortable. The air conditioner was so
noisy that we didn't get much sleep. There were 4 of us in the room and
there weren't enough towels for all of us to use.
