If you are looking for something other than a chain hotel in a quiet area, the Old Stone Inn is perfect. It offers a decent room (about a Motel 6 quality though--with no views), indoor and outdoor pools and very friendly service. The hotel was clean overall, but very dated and worn looking--they describe themselves as "charming." The restaurant, The Millery, is outstanding for a nice dinner. It was a decent stay, but I found myself looking for ways NOT to spend time in my room while I was there.
We
recently spent 3 days at the Inn as part of an army reunion. It is the
perfect setting to relax and visit. The lobby is very welcoming, like
coming home for the Holidays. The staff is friendly and very
accommodating. The rooms as one of our friends said" are better than
any five star hotel that he ever stayed in". They are comfortable and
meticulously clean. The furnishings are on a "Grand Hotel"
scale. The Inn offers a "Lounge", excellent dining, a pool and
hot tub for recreation. It is within walking distance to the Falls and
area attractions.
Unless
you have a hankering for apathetic staff, dirty bathrooms, and unchanged
sheets, avoid this over-priced place. What this place is, is a facade.
Nice on the outside, dirt otherwise. |
The Old Stone Inn is my families favorite Hotel in Niagara, Ontario... we have stayed in that hotel several times before and have never had problems with extremely loud noises coming from the other rooms. We loved it so much we opted to use it as a gathering/lodging place for our Wedding for our individual families/friends. It was WONDERFUL! My husband and I stayed in a fireplace suite, the ambiance, food and the staff have all been awesome. My family who came up from Ohio loved it as well and are planning to go back sometime in late summer. This will be the 6th time we have stayed in this hotel and I find it hard to stay anywhere else! Their weekend packages are great! I can not say enough good things regarding this hotel! It is totally underated and under-advertised.
My husband and I stayed at the Old Stone and had a really great time. The room was extremely clean and had just been remodeled. The Skylon Tower was just across the street. We purchased a combo ticket and opted to have lunch as well as a ride to the top of the tower. In the Revolving dinning room the view was great. The dinning room revolves very slowly so you can see everything around the city and the falls. The Old Stone Inn is located conveniently near Clifton Hill area but not so close that there is all kinds of noise and traffic. The street comes to a dead end where it meets the park so its a really nice scenic walk through gardens to get to the falls area. Or even just to enjoy the gardens by themselves. This is a plus because it eliminates the need for expensive paid parking or even rental cars. We were able to walk everywhere we went. Then comeback and relax in the hot tub and swimming pool. The hotel and lounge themselves had lots of character and were very clean. I don't think I will be staying anywhere else when I come back to Niagra Falls!!!
My
husband & I just returned from our stay at the Old Stone Inn. Well, I
have to say, our experience was less than "charming". Firstly,
we had booked a smoking room with 2 double beds, but when we arrived we
were given a single bed and were told that since we smoked, that was all
that was available. the room was incredibly cramped. The carpet was worn,
bubbly and dirty. The walk from the room to the lobby was like an
overheated maze ant took forever. I actually had a staff member ask me
where a particular room was! The dining room and bar were very nicely
decorated, but the prices were outrageous, even for that area, and the
quality of the food was only passibly acceptable. They advertise a
whirlpool spa, but only fill it halfways, so the water doesn't even reach
the jets. The "private coutyard" is the area around the outdoor
pool, and is far from private, as almost all of the rooms look down on it.
